real wedding: kerri and Lane by Nicole Halverson Photography

Kerri-Lane_KristiSneddon

This beautiful wedding was submitted by Nicole Halverson Photography who was able to capture the true essence of a rural Alberta Wedding.  Kerrie was crowned Stampede Queen and grew up in the foothills in the south of Calgary.

“Lane proposed to me on Sept 26th 2009. It was during the 2010 Calgary Stampede Queen and Princess competition. I was busy all day helping out the contestants at the riding competition and the formal dinner portion. I agreed to spend the night at Lane’s house in High River but that night I didn’t arrive at his place till 11 o’clock.  When I arrived at his door, Lane grabbed my bag as usual. He allowed me to walk ahead of him and as I was getting closer to his room I noticed that his door was glowing. I looked back at him and he had his head down so I continued to walk towards his room. As I opened his door I was astonished by the one hundred tea light candles that were lit and the rose peddles that were placed all over his room. I turned to Lane and he had the ring box in his hand and he asked me to open it. As I looked up to him in shock he took my hand and placed the ring on my finger and asked me to marry him. And of course I said yes! We spent the rest of the night drinking champagne and talking about our future. Lane would say our wedding theme was “Kerri” but I would say, small town love.”  A wedding fit for a queen – thank you for sharing!

real Wedding: Jodi and Mark by Lavish – Wedding Planning and Design

Dana-Mark_Lavish-KristiSneddon

After a quiet proposal at the happiest place on earth, Disneyland, Mark and Jodi began the planning process for their wedding. “Although our locations and themes shifted early on we both were in agreement that we wanted to have a small ceremony that felt comfortable and easy. Ideally we wanted to try for a casual elegance. I didn’t want the ceremony and reception to come across as too stiff or formal but wanted to retain some traditions. Even with a small wedding to plan I felt overwhelmed by all of the little details and knowing how to execute everything the day of. My cousin immediately informed me of Lavish – Wedding Planning and Design, and I knew I had to meet with them to bring my vision to life.”

Jodi’s aunt and uncle offered their home for the ceremony and reception which immediately created a more casual feeling. The colour choices were kept simple with black, white and silver with pops of aqua. They also incorporated a mix of traditional and less traditional wedding décor like a box of cards for guests to leave messages on and stripped luminaries for table numbers. Wedding programs placed on sticks to double as fans were designed in case the outdoor wedding got a little too warm.

“We had a small wedding party consisting of our closest friends and they selected their own attire, the only stipulation being, they wear black.  We had complete trust in them and were excited the day of the wedding to see their selections.”

Flowers were mostly white but kept interesting with a variety of flowers like white hydrangeas, oriental lilies, orchids and blue orchids. To liven up the aisle, white flower petals were arranged in a swirly design. A jazz band played during the cocktail hour before the reception dinner and the backyard was transformed into a casual lounge area with high tables and decorated ottomans for the rest of the evening. Croquet and bocce ball were set-up to add a fun environment for the guests before and after the reception.

“Throughout the planning process and the day off, Lavish – Wedding Planning and Design took our ideas and created a gorgeous, laid back wedding that we still receive compliments on to this day.” A beautiful wedding indeed!

Real Wedding: Dawn & Dave by Corrina Walker Photography

Dawn & Dave first met when they were both twenty, working their summer jobs on the grounds crew at a local golf course. After that summer, they both went back to school and Dawn eventually moved overseas and Dave to various cities in North America. Eight years later, both had returned home to Calgary and reconnected via facebook! They met for a drink and that was that!

Dawn and Dave have a passion for history, culture and antiques and wanted to create an intimate unique environment for their wedding that would reflect their interests. They chose the elegant historic Lougheed House in central Calgary for their small celebration with their closest friends and family. The interior of the Lougheed house is so rich and grand that the wedding décor needed to be simple and fitting to the Victorian styling.  Dave and Dawn chose all white flowers with small vases collected from antique stores and decorated the tables with Victorian books.

They were married in the Lougheed House’s lower gardens in an evening ceremony, serenaded by a friend’s band.

To round off their wedding experience, Dawn and Dave honeymooned in Peru visiting the ancient sites of the Incas.

real wedding: sarah and nate’s mount norquay – banff wedding

CalgaryBride_TMT_realwedding_1

Erika from Two-Mann Tent Photography in Canmore sent us this stylin’ wedding that took place at Mount Norquay. Her bride and groom were thrilled with their images and so were we!

“What can we say. When we first began researching photographers, there was a lot to consider, but from the moment we were invited into their home, we knew Lanny and Erika were just who we wanted. Two-Mann Tent are not only professionals, they are artists with skill, natural talent, passion and a drive for what they do. These photographs are testament to how Two-Mann Tent are incredible at their craft. They represent the product of a team who communicate with their clients. Lanny and Erika mold themselves to who you are and what you want. We will never be able to express our gratitude for these memories and we feel honored that they captured our special day. If you are ever presented with the opportunity to work with Two-Mann Tent, our strong recommendation is to say YES! You will be delighted with the experience. It was the best decision we made in planning our entire wedding. Thank you Two-Mann Tent!” – Bride and Groom

Then Erika comments…

“From the moment Lanny and I arrived at Sarah and Nate’s Banff wedding, we ‘picked up’ on a beautiful and intense energy. Everyone present was so genuinely happy for the bride and groom. Even the weather gods and mother nature did their part and, as if communicating their approval, held back a major cold front which ultimately pushed through mere hours after signing their nuptials. And it hasn’t warmed up since.  Their wedding was speckled with fabulous little romantic details. One of which was the unique and interesting way in which Nate and Sarah chose to collect the love and energy from their guests. As relatives and friends arrived, they filed past a small, red wooden boat containing smooth river rocks. Each guest selected a rock to hold onto during the ceremony and then return to the boat afterward. These rocks will be an everlasting reminder of the love and support that Nate and Sarah’s loved ones have for them.  Lanny and I feel incredibly privileged to have taken part in such a beautiful and special day. Here are few of our favorite images.”

The Love You Back project winners

Remember the Love You Back Project? Um – we do. It was the adorable contest that Calgary wedding photographers Anne Wright and Tara Whittaker announced a few months back. Engaged couples in Southern Alberta were asked to submit a video telling their love story - even in this tech savy world, that can be a challenge. It takes time, energy (which many brides lack during the planning process) and a creative eye to come up with a compelling video – I told everyone I was going to make one just for fun annnnd I got about as far as realizing how hard it was going to be. Kudos to those couples who actually did it!

We are sending a huge congratulations to Sarah and Bryce, the big winners, who are getting married on September 17th and will have the luxury of not one, but two fabulous wedding photographers capturing every minute of their beautiful day.
