Calgary Wedding Photographer f8 Photography: features Zoe & Cory

Calgary Wedding Photographers, Trish and Matt from f8 photography, say that Zoe & Cory are definitely a complimentary couple and that there is a chemistry & closeness between them, a kind of feeling of two people perfectly matched as he brings out her lighter side & she keeps him on track. The photographs were taken prior to the wedding so the couple could get down to the business of enjoying themselves with family & friends right after the ceremony.
Zoe says, “Cory and I were introduced by mutual friends. We had met a couple of times before we finally began talking and realized that we had a lot in common. We dated for about 3 years, spending time together traveling, going to Flames and Stampeder games and having fun. In August of 2010 we were on the west coast for a family wedding and Cory proposed to me on a long walk through Stanley Park in Vancouver (a place he knew I loved) and we soon began planning our wedding to take place the following fall. On September 17, 2011, we were married in a wonderful ceremony officiated by Nomi Whalen in front of our family and close friends. The day was windy and cloudy, but the sun came out mere moments before I walked down the aisle on the patio at Silver Springs Golf Club.”
The invitations for the wedding were designed by Zoe’s sister, a photographic artist living and working in Toronto, and each table number featured a photograph of old hollywood movie stars. Zoe loves the understated glamour of old movies and movie stars, particularly Paul Newman and Marilyn Monroe. Cory and her chose pictures of couples from some of the more famous movies in the 50′s and 60′s for each table, and to honor their parents and grandparents, Zoe had framed photographs of their wedding photos at the table when the guests first walked in to the reception. For the kids table, instead of a floral centrepiece, Cory made lollipop bouquets with vases filled with candy, using the lollipops as flowers. A big hit, I’m sure!
Thanks Trish and Matt for sharing the images and Zoe and Cory for letting us peek at your wedding and sharing your stories. What a memorable day for you!

Wedding Fair Love: Cameo & Cufflinks

A wedding may be all about a marriage, but let’s be honest for a minute – the magic of the day starts with the dress. One of the decisions (if not THE decision) that Calgary brides spend the most amount of time mulling over, it’s also one of the most fun! Or am I alone in that? Although some brides experience a fair amount of anxiety over choosing the dress of their dreams (it is hard to choose a dress you’ve only dreamt about) , Cameo & Cufflinks is one of those special salons, a Calgary bridal salon that helps melt anxieties away. Full service with a huge selection, it’s about making you look and feel amazing, not just selling you a dress.
My FAVOURITE part about blogging about exhibitors at The Wedding Fair is getting to go over all the smallest details – you can look at a booth, you can look at bridal fashion, you can do it all, but until your girl sits you down and helps you define what it is that you actually like about something, it’s hard to make decisions. So as your honourary bridesmaid, let’s take a look at some of the bridal fashions Cameo & Cufflinks was proud to present at the BIG show.
PS if you click on the photos, it will enlarge them if you want to see a few more details!
Love this ultra flattering dress – the silhouette and the sweetheart neckline give a girl all the right curves. The delicate overlay give the skirt great texture if you’re looking for something with a bit more punch and paired with the blinged up sash, this look is a total statement maker.
This dress is a great option for a Calgary bride who loves the dramatic look of a full skirt, but isn’t really into the Princess feeling that many full skirt dresses evoke. The black sash is back as a big trend again for 2012 wedding dresses, and I love the long tails of the bow at the back. Paired with this chunky necklace, this is a great option for a modern, chic Calgary bride.
This dress is a nice mix of subtle and splash. The bottom is incredibly flattering (look at that mannequin’s booty!) with the button detailing on the back going all the way down to the flare of the skirt. I am especially in love with the contrast between the sleek and smooth front of the skirt (click on this picture to enlarge it so you can get a better idea), and the huge ruffle on the back. The top is so fun – the small, tight ruffles are a great contrast to the one giant ruffle on the skirt, and will easily give a bust a little boost.
Of course I love this. I love a leap of faith, especially when it comes to fashion. The bottom flows out from the knees, it almost looks likes the swirls of fabric just appear from the skirt. The clean transition from smooth dress to detailed and flourishing is fantastic. To pull it all together, the pop of flair at the top balances what could be a bottom heavy dress. A dress like this calls for very modern make up.
A splash of colour! Yes please – especially when it’s this rustic pink that has made it’s way from invitations to centre pieces to bridal gowns. This sash is such a great way to spice up this classic layered dress. The low back adds a splash of sexy-rexy. I see this dress and this sash and all I can see are soft pink pumps covered in black lace – do you see it too?

Another amazing year, another amazing fair
The longer the night lasts, the more our dreams will be.
- Chinese Proverb
Today marks the start of the Year of the Water Dragon in Chinese Astrology – that means that yesterday was the last day of the Chinese calendar year. In Chinese culture, the New Year is the ultimate celebration of change and rebirth. They say that today is the day to start with a clean slate – whatever energy you carry with you today will affect the rest of your year so embrace the liberating feeling – out with the old and in with the new!
Even though the 2012 Calgary Wedding Fair was held yesterday (technically the Year of the Rabbit), there is no doubt that the BIG show brought in the spirit of 2012. The exhibition halls were filled with new ideas, new trends, new features, new collaborations, new exhibitors, new contests and most importantly, new brides. A LOT of new brides! There were record numbers through the doors to take in every minute of wedding bliss. It’s always surprising to see just how many Calgary wedding venues and Calgary wedding photographers there are, but it’s never surprising when you see the creativity, especially from Calgary wedding planners! Oh my goodness the talent and work that went into their booths.
From the moment the doors opened and girls swarmed to receive their complimentary copy of the Calgary Bridal Guide, to when I seated myself in the front row to catch the last fashion show of the day featuring dresses from bridal stores in Calgary, it was an exciting day from start to finish. I can’t believe how quickly the entire day passed. It was like Christmas, gone in the blink of an eye. You realize afterwards how great it was and you’re already excited for next year…
So as you probably guessed, I was working the room all day and naturally, dear reader, since I always carry you in my mind, I was working the room for you. See what a good bridesmaid I am? I’m excited to tell you that for the next few weeks, I’ll be bringing you up to speed on tons of amazing exhibitors and booths that were certainly hot spots at the show. From flowers, to décor, to cakes – the next few weeks will be filled with feature posts. Are you excited? I’m excited…

The VIP entrance for VIP Guests!

My view from the catwalk - I thought it looked busy on the floor. It looked seriously busy from way up high!

Adorable!! Love it when brides come prepared :)

At the Christina + Nathan Photography booth

I probably walked by the CakeWorks booth 15 times to chat with them and get some photos but they were literally swamped like this the entire day!
Calgary Wedding Photographer – Perry Thompson featuring Lindsay and Morgan

Happy Friday! This is such a beautiful story sent to me via Calgary Wedding Photographer Perry Thompson of Lindsay and Morgan’s breath taking destination wedding in Mexico. What makes it even more special to me is the story behind the wedding.

Check out the slide show at the end of the story submitted by Perry on this stunning destination wedding at the Dreams Puerto Adventuras in Mexico.
Here is what Lindsay says…
“Morgan and I met in High School and we were good friends through out and lost touch after leaving school. I ended up moving to the US after my mother died of Pancreatic Cancer. Constantly searching for something greater than me to create a better life, I found yoga. I ended up teaching around the world and felt the need to settle down. I recently added Morgan to facebook and we started talking again. I never thought of him romantically and we ended up talking about a yoga studio. Long story short, he the business side, me the yoga, we decided to go through with it. The day the lease for the space was signed I realized I started falling for him. The advice that I received from friends always said the same thing…. do not date someone you work with as it’s destination for disaster!” I had to tell them “no choice” as I had decided if he said that he did not like me in that way, it was early enough for me to let it go. We went out for dinner and he asked me to tell him something about myself he didn’t already know so I thought, perfect chance. I then simply told him, ” I am falling for you.” I couldn’t look up and I could feel the redness in my face. I then asked Morgan to tell me something about himself that I don’t already know. He replied, ” I have had the biggest crush on you since high school.” So there it was, the answer I needed! We spent 24hours a day together working on opening the studio. Some days were great, some days were the worse. By the time the studio opened I had felt we had been through everything. Six months after we opened, Morgan went to Yoga Teacher Training. On their graduation night from their 9 week intensive training course, all the students would celebrate with a blessing from our guru and receive their certificate. When Morgan went to take a picture with our Guru, I was allowed to take a picture with the both of them to celebrate the moment. Morgan then grabbed the microphone and asked our guru for his blessings because Morgan wanted to ask me to marry him. All 450 graduates and teachers were screaming in shock and joy. I could barely stand.

We decided to get married on 11.11.11 as everywhere we went, 11-11 was there. I looked it up and found to see it frequently meant ‘creating synchronicity in your life’. I took it as a special omen, or good luck. We got married at Dreams Puerto Adventuras resort in Mexico. It was perfect as thirty of our closest friends and family attended, it was simple and spectacular and the resort was more than accommodating as the ceremony and reception were wonderful…. no complaints.
A rainbow came out when I was walking down the aisle. Morgan thought it was my mom….”
Thank you for sharing Lindsay. Namaste.
